The Joke
I was sitting in my chair, staring at the computer screen. I had been trying to come up with a good joke for the past hour, but nothing was coming to mind. I was about to give up and go to bed when I had a sudden inspiration. I quickly typed out the joke and hit send.
The Build-up
Once upon a time, there was a man who loved making jokes. He would spend hours thinking up the perfect way to make people laugh. He was so good at it that he even made a living out of it, travelling the country and making people laugh.
One day, he met a woman who was the complete opposite of him. She was serious and uptight, and she didn’t appreciate his sense of humor one bit. But for some reason, he couldn’t help but be drawn to her.
He started telling her jokes, hoping to make her smile. But she just stared at him, unamused. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t get her to laugh.
One day, he decided to give up. He told her that he was done trying to make her laugh, and that she could go ahead and do whatever she wanted with her life.
But as he turned to walk away, she suddenly started laughing uncontrollably. It turns out she had been joking all along!

I was only pretending to be asleep when my alarm went off this morning. I had set it for 6:00 a.m., but I had been up for hours already, just lying in bed and staring at the ceiling. It was a warm day in the middle of summer. The kind of day where the sun just begs you to come out and play. And that’s exactly what I was doing. I was outside with my friends, playing tag. We were all laughing and having a good time. Then, out of nowhere, one of my friends started coughing. At first we thought she was just joking around, but then she started to turn red. We realized she wasn’t joking anymore. We rushed her to the hospital, where they told us she was allergic to something in the air. They said if we had been even a few minutes later, she could have died.

They were the “cool” kids, and Bob wanted to be cool too. So he started ignoring me and spending more time with them.
I was hurt, but I tried to understand. I thought maybe he’d come back to me eventually. But then one day, he and his new friends started making fun of me. They would laugh at everything I did, and they would call me names. It wasn’t just harmless teasing, they were deliberately trying to make me feel bad about myself.
I tried to ignore them, but it was hard. They made my life miserable. And the worst part was that Bob was doing it too. He had become one of them.
One day, I’d had enough. I decided to get revenge on them. I pretended to be friends with them again, and then I started making fun of THEM behind their backs. It felt good to get back at them, and soon enough they were the ones getting teased instead of me.
The tables had turned, and I had won the battle… but at what cost? In the process of getting revenge on my enemies, I had lost my friend Bob. And that made me realise that sometimes it’s not worth it to get revenge… because in the end you might just end up losing something precious in the process.
The Joke
So, I was sitting in my living room the other day, minding my own business, when I heard a knock at the door. I got up to answer it, and there was a FedEx delivery driver there with a package for me.
I signed for it and brought it inside, and when I opened it up, I found that it was a box of cookies from my mom. She had sent them to me as a surprise because she knows how much I love cookies.
Anyway, I decided to have one of the cookies right then and there, so I took a bite out of it. But then something happened that I wasn’t expecting…
The cookie turned into a pieces of paper!
I was so confused that I took another bite, just to see if maybe I had missed something the first time around. But nope – the second bite turned into paper too.
At this point, I realized that my mom had played a joke on me. She had sent me a box of fake cookies made out of paper!
I thought it was pretty funny, even though I did end up getting crumbs all over my living room floor. But hey, at least now I know not to trust anything that comes in a box from my mom – even if it is just cookies!
