Timothy Michael “Tim” Kaine was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on February 26, 1958, one of three children of Mary Kathleen (née Burns), a home economics teacher, and Albert Alexander Kaine, Jr., a welder and the owner of a small Ironworking shop. His father is of Irish Catholic descent , while his mother is of Irish-American descent. Kaine was raised in the Kansas City area and graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1976. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Missouri in 1979 and a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1983.
