Norm Macdonald was born on October 17, 1963, in Ottawa, Canada. His mother was a homemaker and his father was a teacher. Macdonald began doing stand-up comedy in high school and after graduation, he moved to Toronto to pursue his career. He soon became a regular at Yuk Yuk’s, a comedy club in the city. In the early 1990s, Macdonald’s career began to take off when he joined “Saturday Night Live” as a writer and performer. When Norm was age 12,[11] his father died from a heart attack onstage during a stand-up comedy routine.Macdonald attended Selwyn House School (formerly Selwyn Fields School) and graduated from Prince of Wales Collegiate Institute in 1981. In high school, he focused on impersonations and did not take comedy seriously until he saw Richard Pryor’s concert film Richard Pryor: Live & Smokin’ in 1971.
