Introduction
Machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence that deals with the construction and study of algorithms that can learn from and make predictions on data.
machine learning is often used interchangeably with artificial intelligence, but there is a important distinction: machine learning algorithms are able to learn and improve on their own, whereas artificial intelligence algorithms must be explicitly programmed by humans.
There are many different types of machine learning algorithms, but they can be broadly grouped into three main categories: supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning.
Supervised learning algorithms are used to learn from labeled training data. In other words, the algorithm is given a set of examples (data points) where each example has been labeled with the correct answer (i.e., the desired output of the algorithm). The goal of the algorithm is to learn a function that can map new examples (data points) to the correct label.
Unsupervised learning algorithms are used to learn from unlabeled data. These algorithms try to find hidden patterns or structure in the data. For example, an unsupervised learning algorithm might be used to cluster data points into groups based on similar characteristics.
Reinforcement learning algorithms are used to learn from interaction with an environment. The goal of these algorithms is to maximize some reward by choosing actions that lead to the most reward. Reinforcement learning is often used in robotics applications where an agent must learn how to interact with its environment in order to maximize some reward (e.g., minimize energy consumption or maximize efficiency).
What is Machine Learning?
Machine learning is a method of teaching computers to learn from data, without being explicitly programmed. It is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) that often employs statistical techniques to give computers the ability to “learn” (i.e., progressively improve performance on a specific task) from data, without being explicitly programmed to do so.
