Whitney was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska on February 17, 1963. He grew up in nearby Pawnee City, where he graduated from high school in 1981. He began his career in the early 1990s as a disc jockey on a country music station in West Palm Beach, Florida. After several years working in radio, he began performing stand-up comedy.
