Many people know Frankie Boyle as a Scottish comedian, but few know about his early life.
Boyle was born and raised in working-class Cumbernauld, just outside Glasgow. His father worked in a factory and his mother was a shop assistant. He has three brothers and two sisters.
Boyle was educated at Holyrood Secondary School, where he was classmates with future Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. He then studied English Literature at the University of Glasgow, before dropping out to pursue a career in comedy.
Career
Boyle has worked as a writer on television shows such as BBC2’s Mock the Week, BBC1’s Live at the Apollo, Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and was a regular panellist on Have I Got News for You. As well as his work in television, Boyle has released three DVDs of his live stand-up. In December 2008 he published his first book, My Shitty Twenties.

Frankie Boyle was born in 1972 in Pollokshaws, Glasgow, Scotland, to Irish parents from Belfast. He was raised a Catholic. As a teenager he worked as a bus conductor. He then studied English and drama at the University of Sussex before embarking on a career as a stand-up comedian.
Boyle has been married twice. His first marriage ended in divorce and he has since remarried. He has three children from his first marriage and one from his second.
Boyle is an atheist.
